The Four Seasons of Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741) is
one of the most frequently recorded and performed
works of musical literature. Nevertheless, our ears never
grow weary of hearing it. Originally planned as a violin
concerto with an extramusical program, with QSQ the Four
Seasons becomes a concerto grosso in which all the saxo-
-phones, from soprano to baritone, perform as soloists.
A further special feature here is the unusual saxophone
line-up with 2 soprano, 1 alto,1 tenor and 1 baritone.

The levels of arrangement shift during the course of the
seasons. While Spring stays close to the original, Summer
wanders away from the original, incorporating improvisation.
Autumn sees the rhythm intensifying with jazzy grooves,
leading back to Winter, again returning closer to the original.

Our sopranist & arranger Uli Lettermann, inspired by the
wonderful music of Vivaldi, added a „fifth season“.
In its form it adheres to Vivaldi‘s prescription with two
fast outer movements and a slow inner movement.

It respects the origin and brings the quintessence
of Quintessence Saxophon Quintet
to the fore.
